Kids Eyes Count Campaign

The Kids Eyes Count Campaign is a winning action plan.  The Campaign promotes the best eye care for every child.

Follow three simple steps and you can be a part of our Campaign!

  • Know vision screening is not a substitute for an eye examination.
  • Make comprehensive eye and vision examinations by an eye doctor part of a child’s health care.
  • Keep eye care health and good vision habits a priority.

Vision First provides important information you will want to know.  Vision report forms, prewritten letters, and helpful fact sheets are part of our Campaign.

We hope you will follow our three simple steps and join us.

All children can benefit from an eye examination

A comprehensive eye and vision examination includes:

  • Eye health
  • Visual acuity
  • Refractive evaluation
  • Visual efficiency

An eye doctor can identify, treat, and prevent vision problems that could interfere with a child’s ability to succeed in school and in life.

Academic learning is estimated to be 80% visual.  Ensure a child's success.  Make comprehensive eye and vision examinations by an eye doctor part of a child's health care.

Encourage complete eye and vision care

  • Vision First recommends our vision report form and the prewritten recommendation letter be included in each child's registration packet every year.  Encourage your school to recommend comprehensive eye and vision examinations for all children during the preschool and school-aged years.

  • If your school is participating in a vision screening program, ensure a Vision Screening Letter is distributed before any vision screening is conducted.  Vision screening is not a substitute for an eye examination.
  • If your state requires vision screenings, initiate legislation that requires parental notification and the choice of an eye exam by an eye doctor in place of a vision screening.
